Snow College prioritizes quality teaching in all delivery formats, including online offerings. However, online teaching presents several unique challenges to ensuring quality. To assist online faculty with this ongoing objective, this Online Excellence webpage provides several faculty resources and outlines three required steps for online quality course development and delivery.
Click on any of the three Online Excellence elements below: COURSE DESIGN, COURSE DELIVERY, and INSTRUCTOR TRAINING.
Snow's Online Design Checklist should be used to guide the design and evaluation of online courses. These criteria must be met before an online course is taught.

The college has purchased a Canvas design tool called DesignPLUS for faculty and staff. Here is a brief explanation video . DesignPLUS helps create homepages, content pages, and templates for modules, pages, quizzes, and discussion boards. This tool also allows for faculty to easily modify due dates and delay announcements
Because of the nuances of using the tool, faculty need to complete a 90-minute training before getting access to DesignPLUS; the Teaching and Learning Center will offer trainings throughout the school year. For future trainings and gaining DesignPLUS access, contact the Teaching and Learning Center at 435-283-7341 or ude.wons@clt.

This rubric has been designed to aid in the ongoing evaluation of online courses and instructors. The feedback on this form should recognize instructor efforts to maintain high quality and rigor in their courses and provide thoughtful recommendations for improvement.
For full-time faculty, this form should be added to their dossier and will be submitted to department chairs to meet the Advancement & Tenure schedule and/or department review schedules. For adjunct faculty, this form will be included in their annual review and submitted to department chairs at least once a year when teaching an online course.
To accompany annual reviews, this rubric has been designed to aid in the ongoing self-evaluation of online courses. The feedback on this form should include reflection of successes and plans for improvement.
For full-time and adjunct faculty, this form is recommended each year an online course is taught. Full-time faculty should include the completed form in their portfolio/dossier. Adjunct faculty should submit the form to their department chair.
Each year, Snow faculty can use UQI funds to earn up to $300 by competing a Teaching Triangle with two other faculty members. Form a Teaching Triangle with two other online teachers and apply here .
Because we want faculty to be the primary authority for guiding online instruction, the need for selecting Online Quality Mentors to assist with several steps in this process is crucial. To assist departments in reviewing online courses for the design checklist peer observations, each dean selects one or more faculty in the division to serve as an Online Quality Mentor—a skilled online teacher who can help evaluate and guide division colleagues in online pedagogy.
